Where can you buy homeowners insurance if you have had more than two claims or live in a brush fire area?

A lot of people have trouble finding home, condo or fire insurance because their property is located in a wildfire, high brush or a high fire risk area.   If your home is on a canyon, in a high brush area,  in a high fire risk zone, in a wildfire area or close to brush, you may have a hard time finding a home policy or your home policy may not be renewed.

Most of the preferred insurance companies in California will not insure homes if they are in a Wild Fire or Brush Fire area or if there have been multiple losses in the past.

The California FAIR Plan Association (the FAIR Plan) is an association of all insurance companies authorized to transact basic property insurance in California. Established under State law, the FAIR Plan provides insurance coverage to responsible applicants who have been unable to secure insurance for their home or business in the normal market.

Reasonable underwriting standards shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

1. physical condition of the property, such as its construction, heating, wiring, evidence of previous fires or general deterioration;

2. its present use or housekeeping, such as vacancy, overcrowding, storage of rubbish or flammable materials; or

3. other specific characteristics of ownership, condition, occupancy, or maintenance which are violative of public policy and result in unreasonable exposures to loss.

Neighborhood or area location or any hazard beyond the control of the property owner shall not be deemed to be acceptable criteria for declining a risk.

Fair Policies are the best solution for homes located near brush fire exposure. This includes homes in Tahoe, Groveland, Placerville, Portola Valley, Grass Valley and Yuba City.

Please send us your address and we can work up a quote for you and get your California house insured.

This home is a good candidate for the California FAIR Plan. Even though you had your property cleared of brush, the surrounding land has too much brush. Unfortunately you need at least 500 ft brush clearance. I saw your email and will get you a quote.

Hello David - You could get a California FAIR Plan policy for about $1200. Its possible that this home may qualify for insurance through a standard insurance company as well. Please give me a call so I can get some more info from you and provide you with a detailed quote.

Hello. Im trying to find a policy for a home in escrow. The address of the property is 6640 Bergesen Drive, Kelseyville, CA 95451. What are appoximate prices in that area for 1500 sq ft. All brush cleared away for at least 500 in all directions.

Hello Troy. A FAIR Plan Policy would be approximately $2000 per year for that house. A wrap around policy would be an additional $1500 per year. Please give me a call if you would like a firm quote. Thank you.

Hello Zach. Assuming its a primary residence, the FAIR Plan can insure the house for about $1200 per year. Ill reach out to you through email right now. You will probably want a supplemental policy as well. I need to gather a little more information in order to produce that quote.
